When asked what made teaching at New London-Spicer so wonderful, she replied,
The Kids, Always the Kids! Dorcas Gravley

Mrs. Gravley passed away in 2018, but her love of teaching, reading, and children makes it a dream come true for the NLS Educational Foundation to publish Mrs. Gravley's own children's book.
In memory of all that she did for the students at NLS during her 37 years as a teacher, we are proud to bring you "Four Cats in a Cottage," an original story by Dorcas J. Gravley and illustrated by NLS high school art students Morgan Thein, Autumn Foshaug, and Katie Haglund.

Illustrator Morgan Thein
Morgan is a 2026 graduate of New London-Spicer High School who enjoys creating art in a variety of media, with watercolor and acrylic paint among her favorites. Throughout high school, she continued to grow as an artist while discovering her passion for using illustrations to tell meaningful stories. She plans to continue creating art as a lifelong hobby while attending college. When she's not creating art, Morgan finds inspiration from books, the outdoors, and everyday little moments.
She hopes her artwork inspires imagination and a lasting connection for young readers.

Illustrator Autumn Foshaug
Autumn is a senior at New London-Spicer High School who has loved drawing and writing since she was just five years old. As a little girl, Autumn would write and illustrate her own books to sell at her grandmother's garage sales, a passion that has now come full circle as one of the talented illustrators of Four Cats in a Cottage by Dorcas Gravley.
Autumn hopes you'll enjoy reading Four Cats in a Cottage just as much as she enjoyed illustrating it.

Illustrator Katie Haglund
Katie is a senior at New London-Spicer High School who has always enjoyed expressing her creativity through art. After graduating from high school, Katie plans to pursue both veterinary school and art school, combining her passion for animals with her love of creativity. She hopes to find programs in Minnesota that will help her achieve both of these dreams.
She hopes you'll enjoy reading Four Cats in a Cottage as much as she enjoyed helping illustrate this special community collaboration.
