Multilingual Services
New London-Spicer Public schools welcomes multilingual students and the diversity they bring to our schools. Multilingualism carries many benefits. There is strong evidence that proficiency in one language leads to proficiency in subsequent languages, for this reason we strongly encourage families to maintain and strengthen their children’s home language proficiency.
At last count, 11 languages are spoken by students in New London-Spicer Public Schools. These languages are Afrikaans, American Sign Language, Dutch, French, Gujarati, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.
EL Program at NLS
Multilinguals are people who can communicate in more than one language. Multilingual students qualify for English Learner (EL) services if their English language proficiency demonstrates a need for English Language Development (ELD).
