School Board Election

School Board members for the New London–Spicer School District are elected representatives who govern, manage, and set policy for the district in its responsibility to provide quality educational facilities and opportunities for all students.
School Board members typically serve four-year terms. Elections are held in accordance with Minnesota election law, and the filing process is administered by the School District Clerk. New London-Spicer School Board has four open board positions.
Qualifications
Candidates for New London–Spicer School Board must:
- Be eligible to vote in Minnesota
- Be at least 21 years of age upon assuming office
- Have resided within the school district for at least 30 days prior to the general election (November 3, 2026)
- Not have filed for another office at the upcoming primary or general election (unless permitted under Minn. Stat. 367.033)
- Not have been convicted of an offense requiring registration as a predatory offender under Minn. Stat. 243.166
Filing Period is July 14, 2026 – July 28, 2026 (5:00 p.m.)
How to File
Candidates must submit an Affidavit of Candidacy and the required $2 filing fee to the School District Clerk during the official filing period.
- Carefully review the instructions on the Affidavit of Candidacy form before submitting
- Filing forms and additional guidance are available through the district office
- All affidavits of candidacy must be notarized to be accepted
- NLS School District has one part time notary available via appointment. Most major banks and credit unions also offer free notary services to their customers and local UPS Stores, FedEx Office locations, municipal and county offices often have notaries available for a small fee.
Filing Fee
Minnesota law requires a $2 filing fee for school board candidates.
Candidates may instead submit a Petition in Place of Filing Fee. The required number of signatures is the lesser of: 500 signatures, or 5% of the total votes cast in the last general election for that office

Withdrawal
A candidate who has filed may withdraw their candidacy by submitting an Affidavit of Withdrawal to the School District Clerk.
- Withdrawal may occur during the filing period, or
- By 5:00 p.m. within two days after the close of the filing period
Write-In Candidates
All write-in votes are counted individually without prior registration unless the school district has adopted a resolution requiring a minimum threshold of write-in votes before individual tallying is required..
