A Message From Our Superintendent: Weather Conditions Memo

February 7, 2019

Weather Conditions Memo

In the past two weeks, Central Minnesota has witnessed weather ranging from very cold temperatures to snow and blowing snow. Sometimes, we have had both! Although conditions haven't been extreme, the weather has prompted questions in the New London-Spicer school district office about how and when we make decisions to close school. Click here for more information about how those decisions are made.

For late starts, early outs, or school closings because of bad weather, we notify you by an automated messaging system which sends messages to your home phone, email, and cell phone dependent on your contact prefences in Parent Portal. We also contact the following stations with weather related announcements.

Q102.5 FM | KWLM1340 AM | K100.1 FM - Willmar | K-95.3 FM | 97.3 FM | KDJS-1590 AM - Willmar | WCCO 830 AM & WCCO TV CH 4 | KSTP TV CH 5 | KMSP TV CH 9 | KARE TV CH 11 | Parents can also call the school at 320-354-2252 and press option 7 for weather related announcements.

Parents are expected to use their own judgement as to whether the weather is suitable for their own children to make the journey to school on any particular day. If school is in session, and it is the judgment of the parents that their children should remain at home, the parents' judgement would be respected by the school.
