NL-S Drama Class and Staff Receive Training

Former NLS graduate Shane Kelly conducts rigging training at PAC

1995 NLS graduate Shane Kelly spent the morning of December 20th at the Performing Arts Center in New London, presenting a specialized training on the facility’s rigging system for Paula Prill’s high school technical Theatre class and numerous PAC staff members including theatre construction technicians Ben Mooberry and Dave Holmquist.

The training included procedures for operation of the state-of-the-art rigging system used for raising and lowering set pieces, curtains, and backdrops on the stage of the Performing Arts Center.  The pulley system, based on counter-weighting, requires comprehensive training and knowledge to operate safely.  Students and staff received the training on the PAC stage and loading loft as Mr. Kelly fielded questions and provided opportunities for hands-on testing of the newly acquired information.

Kelly is currently Chair of Design and Technology, Head of Theatre Technology, and Head of Projection Design at the Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.  He studied at St John’s University and received his MFA at the University of Delaware.
