Hear Our Local Candidates Express Their Views

Willmar, MN:  Candidates for office answered questions in forums organized by the League of Women Voters – Willmar Area (LWV).  You can view and hear them by using your Facebook app or by web browser at  Due to the pandemic, this year’s LWV forums were held without an audience and with candidates socially distanced and masked, except when speaking.  WRAC assisted the LWV in recording and posting the forums.

Paging down on the LWV Facebook site, you will find several forums:  Our state House of Representatives and Senate seats, Kandiyohi County commissioners, Willmar City Council, Willmar School Board, New London City Council, New London Mayor, and New London-Spicer School Board.

This year, LWV and the MN Secretary of State are encouraging voters to vote using US mail.  Although our polling places will utilize pandemic precautions, voting by mail will be safer.

You can check whether you are registered, register to vote, and request an absentee ballot at the Minnesota Secretary of State site,  When you fill out the absentee ballot request, it is best to enter both your drivers license number and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

When you receive your absentee ballot, be sure to follow all the steps carefully.  This pandemic year, the signature of a witness will not be necessary, unless you have changed your address or name since you last voted or registered, in which case you will receive materials to re-register and send your registration with your absentee ballot.

It is important to mail the ballot as soon as possible.  Mailing your ballot by Oct. 15 will enable voting officials to check that your vote is valid because you followed all directions, and they can notify you if it was not valid, so you can vote another way.  You may track the status of your vote at

If you have not registered to vote and mailed your ballot by Oct 15, it is best to go to our Kandiyohi County Auditor’s Office at 400 S.W. Benson Ave. in Willmar weekdays between 8am and 4:30pm, where you may register to vote and vote early in person.  You may also deposit your ballot in the box outside the door by November 2.  Lastly, citizens can vote at their polling place on November 3.  To find your polling place, go to

The League of Women Voters Willmar Area has a long, nonpartisan history of providing voters with educational opportunities to learn about voting and to hear from candidates about the issues most important to them.
