Prairie Woods Veterans Day Celebration
On Wednesday, November 8, Prairie Woods Elementary hosted a Veteran's Day Program that was open to local Veterans and our families. Our elementary students and staff worked for weeks to prepare for this very important event. The program not only filled our elementary gym with special guests, patriotic songs, dances, and artwork, but most importantly, gratitude and a better understanding of all that our veterans have sacrificed for our country.
Earlier in the day, some of our classrooms had Veterans as guest speakers. Our students were very engaged as the speakers shared their experiences and answered the students' questions. Opportunities like these create a strong connection between our community and our schools and provide a deeper understanding for our students. Thank you to our veteran speakers.
Also, our elementary hallways were filled with Veterans Day displays, which included, but was not limited to the "Wall of Honor" where students wrote about a Veteran they know or learned about, a variety of American flag art/collages, Lady Liberty and the American Bald Eagle.
This event would not have been possible without the coordination efforts of Karen Johnson and Diane Holmquist. Thank you both. We would also like to thank Deputy Holmquist, Officer Wallace, Rebecca Bellman (Music), Crystel Keefe (Art), 2nd and 4th Grade Teachers, our specialists, our custodians, our IT Department, and many others!
We hope you enjoy this video, created by Prairie Woods Teacher, Malibu Sand, as we feel it encapsulates this year's event and our gratitude.
Special shoutout to our students! We are so proud of your hard work and the great ROAR behavior displayed. Special thank you to our student MCs and our 4th Grader Essays writers/speakers.
