On October 14, 2024, our elementary students gathered with the rest of their grade level peers to celebrate Indigenous People's Day with their specialist teachers. At NLS elementary, specialists include; art, music, physical education, & STEAM. Our Kindergarten through 4th grade students learned about Ojibwe and Dakota cultures in MN.
They heard a story about the three sisters method, a traditional Native American agricultural technique that involves planting corn, beans, and squash together in a symbiotic relationship. Then they were able to sample some corn in the popped form! We want to give a huge thank you to the Spicer Cinema for their generous contribution of popcorn which helped make our Indigenous People’s Day celebration extra special.
